When it’s cold our hands need that little extra care to keep them feeling soft and looking great. I’m a huge fan of The Body Shop’s Almond Hand & Nail Cream. Not only does it work wonders for my skin, it also smells delicious and it’s a great size to pop in your bag or to keep on your desk!
It’s that time of year when everybody seems to be ill. If you haven’t already caught a bug then chances are you’re trying your hardest to avoid it! Boost your body’s defences and zap that cold fast with these handy immunity boosting tips.
Drink, drink and drink some more… Staying hydrated is important all year round, flu or no flu. But when you’re ill, drinking water can be especially helpful in aiding a quick recovery. We loose water through sweating when we have a fever, which can be a particularly huge part in causing headaches. Drink water to rehydrate and also to help flush out any nasty toxins!
Get your Vitamin C. Yes, vitamin C really is good for immunity. Stock up on the fresh orange juice or red and orange peppers for the ultimate fix.
Rest your head. Go to bed early. Sleep works miracles for our health by allowing our bodies to repair and recover. Aim for around 8 hours of sleep a night and when you’re ill try for 9 or 10 if possible.
Grab a banana! Bananas are full of potassium, which is amazing for our immune system. You might not feel like eating much when you’re ill (or want to grab the comfort food), but having a banana will give you that added energy boost to get you through the day.
Walk it out. Don’t go too heavy on the exercise when you’re not well. You need to let your body rest. Try going for a brisk walk. The fresh air will clear your head and light movement will help to ease your muscles, especially if they’re feeling cramped.
Olbas Oil. The best relief for a blocked nose! Drop a little into a hanky or buy a small bottle to pop in your pocket. When you’re feeling clogged up sniff a little olbas to clear your head and aid easier breathing. A fresh sensation to kick that blocked nose in the butt and relieve sinuses! Sometimes a husky voice isn’t so attractive…
Say hello to the dark side. Dark berries that is. Blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrents are all full of the immunity-fighting, anti-inflammatory antioxidant anthocyanin. Eat up!

With Nike’s NTC Week touching down in London there’s been a lot going on in the city’s fitness scene this week, but something that’s definitely caught our attention is the launch of the new 1Rebel gym- a no-contract boutique gym experience. I just had to see what all the fuss was about.
1Rebel is new fitness destination with ‘pay-as-you-go’ high intensity classes. Aiming to ‘revolutionise London’s fitness industry’, this boutique gym differs from other gyms in the city. Located centrally opposite The Gherkin, this is one gym that you definitely need to experience. Consisting of two contemporary fitness studios- one for spin, one for shape- luxe chill areas and top-class spa-like changing rooms, the gym even has a sports fashion retail zone and a cold-pressed juice bar, courtesy of Roots & Bulbs.
This isn’t a gym, it’s an experience. There’s no standard workout area, just classes. You can choose between Rebel Ride, a high-intensity group spin session and Rebel Reshape, a hardcore conditioning class that targets certain muscle groups. Both classes are carried out to a backdrop of bespoke playlists curated by internationally acclaimed DJs.
I tried the spin class at London’s NTC Week at the top of the Gherkin, which was literally breathtaking but yesterday I participated in the Lower Body Rebel Reshape at the gym itself and got more than I’d bargained for. This class was intense. In fact, that’s an understatement. A full 45 minutes of non-stop training. Switching from treadmill to bench every 4 minutes there’s no time for slacking. The trainers are amazing, screaming words of encouragement down their microphones. My favourite of the day, which definitely got me squatting harder was ‘think of those cocktails tonight!’ Oh boy.
A great class to go alone or with a group, just select your station online at your desired time. I went along with my good friend Lois and it was great. We had stations next to one another and were able to push each other to train harder, but not to fear if you want to go alone. Everyone is there to push their limits, so you’ll have enough encouragement from others in the class and the group leaders. This is an amazing gym for both men and women and you’ll get a great work out no matter what your fitness ability.
After working up a sweat (plenty of sweat), you’ll need to recover in the amazingly modern changing rooms. You’re offered cool towels from a Smegg fridge, top-class grooming and skincare products and GHD styling equipment. There’s even nail files, hair grips, combs, toothbrushes and heat protection spray for the women. Men you’ll have to go and see for yourselves, as unfortunately I wasn’t allowed in the male changing rooms, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! Exposed piping, Hollywood style bulb-lined mirrors and heated seats to ease post-workout aches, this is a trendy urban fitness destination. If you’re serious about getting fit, you know where to head.

I was a busy little bee yesterday, which meant that I had no time to post on Tigeress- booo!! My best friend and fellow fitness-fashion-health lover was visiting me in London, for a full day of exercise classes and exhibitions. This means that one, we’re both extremely achy today but two, that I have lots of fun fitness and health updates for you all!
I’ll firstly be posting about our 1Rebel sculpt class- an exciting new gym experience to hit the London fitness scene. I’ll be updating your Tigeress feed with all the action of 1Rebel, but in the meantime here’s a little tip that you probably didn’t know…
Don’t eat fruit right after a meal. This is a huge no-no, as our bodies use different enzymes to digest fruit. When you combine fruit with other foods, it makes it more difficult for our bodies to break down the simple sugars. The fruit will be held in the stomach for too long, which can lead to heartburn, indigestion, burping and other digestive discomforts. Eeeek! Make sure to eat your fruit on an empty stomach, say for breakfast or as snacks during the day! xx
I really wanted to save this one for closer to summer but I just couldn’t resist! If you’re a fan of mango I promise you that you won’t be let down by this little treat- frozen mango chunks! My new favourite thing to eat.
Mangos have a variety of health benefits. They include Vitamin A, which works wonders for your skin and hair, have lots of fibre and potassium- great for your heart- and even help to alkalise your body. They also aid digestion and weight loss and boost your immune system.
Not only are these tasty little treats good for you, they’ll help to zap any sugary cravings, making the perfect snack. Frozen mango tastes just like you’re eating an ice lolly, meaning no more trips to the corner shop to stock up on sweets and ice cream (well, perhaps we won’t rule this out entirely…). I buy mine from Sainsbury’s– two big bags for £4 or one for £2.20. Yes, please! But you can pick some up at most supermarkets or even freeze your own.
Bite size pieces of tropical heaven. No matter the weather, frozen mango is sure to brighten up your day and your taste buds. Enjoy! xx
