ASOS AW15 Press Event

This week I was lucky enough to bag an invite to the ASOS AW15 press day, which meant that I got to have a sneaky peak at what’s in store from one of the world’s leading fashion retailers! Set to hit the site from June all the way through to the end of the year, ASOS will be dropping some seriously strong styles that I’m already making room in my wardrobe for- from the women’s and men’s collections!  There was a lot to lust over so it’s only right that I break it down to give all areas the attention that they deserve.

Ladies first…

Khaki Queen! Khaki, khaki and more khaki. If you’re wearing one colour this autumn winter, it should be… do I really need to say? Khaki will be everywhere and ASOS will be giving you plenty of choice on how to wear it. This military green was mixed with washed out navy and faded grey for the ultimate seasonal look. From scarves to coats to a particularly eye-catching fully embellished unitard (please let me have this right now!!), ASOS have it covered. Attention girls, it’s time to go green!

Sparkle, Don’t Fade. In time for the party season, ASOS will be providing plenty of sparkle for all of your Winter events. Sequins, beaded embellishment, gems, glitter and metallic garms will be filling your ASOS saved items (or basket) in no time. I hate to think of winter before summer has even begun but hello Christmas glitter fun!

Heeled Heaven. Heels. To. Die. For. There’s nothing more to be said…

Delicate Jewels. Although the dresses were screaming for attention, ASOS decided not to go quite so statement on the jewellery. Simple accessories will be the way this AW and there was a definite nod towards gold.

Not to forget the guys!

Mono Men. Practically the entire menswear collection was monotone and it worked. For men, this season is all about a simple colour palette with plenty of texture and shape. The fur bomber had to be my fave- a statement piece that somehow managed to stay reserved (second from right…see what I mean?).

Sports King. Sports is a key trend for men this year (yippeee). Think longline, lightweight, hoods and scuba. There were plenty of tees, tailored sweatpants and sports-inspired jackets. Smart sports will be the only way to go.

Leather It Up. Leather accessories will be a key look for men come Autumn. Leather shoes, bags and even bucket hats were on show. ASOS mixed it up with metallic versions for the more daring male and snakeskin didn’t go amiss.

Quality Touches. Similar to the women’s jewellery, it’s not going to be about statement pieces but instead we’ll see subtle touches of quality. Again, gold was key, with hints of dirty silver and I particularly loved the baby blue stone pendant below…

ASOS deserve a big pat on the back for this one. I was unsure that they’d be able to outdo the last press event but once again, they have pushed their standards to the next level. Well done, ASOS- you’ve got us hooked! xx

Don’t Fight The Temptation- Join It!

Dieting. A word that I don’t agree with. I believe that healthy living should all be about balance. Extreme or yo-yo diets may have short-term effects but lifestyle is all about the long-term. To achieve the body and fitness levels that you desire, it’s all about balance and recent studies agree.

If you can’t quite keep away from the good stuff (well, the not-so-good-stuff), then you might not have to. It’s been revealed that eating a smaller amount of junk food alongside a healthier snack will make you just as satisfied as eating a full portion of unhealthy food. Switch your chips for salad, pair that cookie with fruit or have a handful of crisps with carrot sticks. You really can have the best of both worlds! xx

Why breakfast really is the most important meal of the day…

Breakfast- the most important meal of the day. But why is it so important to make sure that you eat up in the AM?

Break the Fast. It’s in the name. After hours of sleep (we hope), your body needs a proper meal to help it perform at it’s best. This is the first meal of the day that will effect your consumption for the rest of it. Starting the day with a well-balanced breakfast will not only kick start your metabolism, meaning burning more calories, but it can also influence your food choices for the rest of the day, encouraging healthier eating.

Weight Controller. Eating calories towards the beginning of the day is much better than towards the end. Eating a big breakfast and smaller dinner is much better than the other way round- or than no breakfast at all! Our bodies use the energy from food to function, meaning that we’re burning off breakfast just by doing daily activities. A smaller dinner means less calories sitting in your belly whilst you sleep!

Energise. Breakfast = energy. Simple.

Brain Power.  Not only does your physical performance benefit from eating breakfast, so does your brain! We’re able to function and concentrate much more after a good old morning meal. You may just find that breakfast can give you the power to smash through that meeting, exam or interview- a good day all round!

Next time you’re planning on skipping brekkie, think again. This is a meal that can benefit you in more than one way and may just turn your day from good to fabulous. Want to have a productive day? Pass the menu, please! xx

Yummy Snack Alert: Peanut Butter On Apple!

Snacking is a major part of leading a healthy lifestyle. It’s important in order to keep your metabolism running (and hence burn more calories) and also to keep you energised throughout the day. However, when it comes down to what to snack on, it can be rather challenging.

Snacks all add up as part of your daily calorie, fat, salt, sugar intake, which means that what we eat between meals can really affect our overall diet. Personally, I find that when I’m bored I’ll head straight to the fridge- even if I’m not hungry! This can be super dangerous if the fridge is packed with not-so-healthy temptations. So I decided to set up the regular Tigeress Yummy Snack Alert- snacks that you can enjoy without feeling guilty!

Today’s Yummy Snack Alert, peanut butter on apple, is one of my faves. Delicious, one of your five a day and filling. This is definitely a winner. Simply slice your apple, spread your peanut butter and there you have it- fruity goodness with a kick of tummy-loving protein!

Peanut butter makes you feel fuller for longer, improves energy levels and is great for your bowel, while the natural sugars in apples are great for a healthy sugar boost. This is also a particularly good one if you’re trying to reduce carbs. Give it a try and see what you think. Enjoy! xx

Hello, Again!

Hello Tigers,

It’s been a while and I must apologise for my time away. The past few weeks have been super busy for me (a few days in Morocco with New Balance, lots and lots and lots of work at ASOS HQ, a trip to the tropical island of Cyprus and of course, a good few work outs in between)! But I am back and raring to fill your feeds with fitness, fashion and health goodness once again, in the usual Tigeress style.

For me, Cyprus involved ten days of amazing company, yummy food, beach runs, belly laughing until my eyes were watering and abs felt like I’d just hit the sit ups, more food, surf waves, jungle shoots, sun lounging and last but not least, a whole lot of cheeky cocktails. Oh, and did I mention food? Doing my favourite things with some of my favourite people- heaven!

Now I’m back in the crazy city of London and although I was beyond excited to catch up with all of my UK friends, the fact was that I couldn’t face another rich meal or alcoholic beverage. My body had quite simply had enough. But what do you do in the city to socialise that doesn’t involve food and/or drink? Hmmm… good question!

Unfortunately, in modern culture, the main forms of entertainment involve binge drinking and over indulging. True, no? But things are about to change as exercise and health become the new ways to catch up with your bestie. People are realising that they don’t have to sacrifice health to have fun. I strongly believe in balance and I’m not saying to ditch the drink or abandon eating out entirely, but next time you’re planning on meeting up with friends, why not try a goss whilst running in the park or over a smoothie at the local juice bar?

What did I decide to do to catch up with the girls on my return? Roller disco! More belly laughing, fab company, a whole lot of fun, exercising without even realising it and no hangover the next day… Looking after your body is quickly becoming the new way to be happy, and what better way to do so that with friends by your side! It’s time to get your health on, tigers and I’m here to help you out along the way! xx
