Valentines… The Healthy Way!

It’s Valentines weekend, which means you’re likely to be doing one of the next few options… Being treated by a loved one, celebrating singleness either alone or with friends, or drowning your sorrows whilst watching chick flicks and stuffing your face with chocolate (I recommend Bridget Jones for that real I-don’t-need-a-man feeling). Whichever option ticks your box, it’s likely that there’s going to be some naughty little treats involved at some point. Eh hum, I’m talking about the food and drink kind…

Well, whether you’re treating yourself or a loved one- or simply opting for Bridget- I’ve got five little tips on how to keep your day healthy, but still delicious!

Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries

I won’t deprive you of chocolate, but dark is the best. Even better if you can top up on one of your five a day whilst you’re at it.

Heart Shaped Eggs

Just buy one of these cheeky little devices (I got mine at Paperchase) and taadahh, your eggs are transformed. The perfect breakfast in bed surprise. Serve with avo on brown toast with a nice big smoothie!

Go for a Run

On Valentines? Yes! Whether alone or with company, it’s the best way to get those endorphins active (that’s feel good chemicals produced by our body) so you’ll be feeling great all day, date or not.

Heart Shaped Fruit Pops

Looks good, tastes sweet. What’s not to like? Try freezing them if you’re a fan of ice lollies!

Invest in New Lingerie

It could either lead to some good old bedroom exercise or will make you feel fab! It’s not a fact, but from my personal opinion, the better we feel about our body the more we take care of it.

Single or taken, you deserve to give your body the care and love that it deserves on Valentines and beyond. Have a fab weekend guys! xx

Guest Writer Lois Brown talks Aloe Vera

Our favourite guest writer is back once again (yippeee) and as a bit of a nutrition expert, I always look forward to hearing Lois’s top food and drink finds. This time she’s blogging all about her new found love for a super healthy drink… Here’s why Lois thinks that Aloe Vera water is one to try! x

I recently discovered Aloe Vera water and was pleasantly surprised at the refreshing and sweet taste of this yummy beverage!

After some research, I loved the sound of all of its health and beauty benefits. Aloe Vera is packed full of amino acids, vitamins including A, C and E and minerals such as Calcium, Iron and Zinc, making it a fabulous drink for detoxing and for boosting your immune system. It helps with lowering blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels and if that isn’t enough, it also helps to increase the healthiness of your hair and promotes hair growth.

Aloe Vera, in its pure leaf form, can sooth skin issues such as acne or burns and is great for skin hydration and building skin’s natural defences- meaning that I’m on a crazy hunt for Aloe Vera product to keep my skin glowing all summer!

Ensure that you’re feeling fresh and healthy after all of this weekend’s Bank Holiday madness by popping down to your local supermarket and trying my new favourite source of hydration!

With Love, Lois x

P.S. It’s available at Tesco for only £1.05 for a 500ml bottle!

Going Natural!

If I placed a test tube full of coloured liquid in front of you, telling you it was called ghansalinadide, would you drink it?

The chances are that you answered no to the above question. Well I hope that your answer was no, because I can bet money that you don’t even know what ghansalinadide is. If you do, then I’m impressed because ghansalinadide isn’t a real thing. It doesn’t exist. I made it up. And if it did exist, it definitely wouldn’t be something that you would be wanting to swig down by the gallon.

The point that I’m trying to make is that most of us wouldn’t willingly consume a chemical or substance that we were unsure of (and that looks like it belongs in a lab).

Another question for you. Think about what’s in your cupboard. Now tell me. What is in your cupboard? Sure, there may be a can of soup, a tin of beans, pasta, cereal bars- but what is really in your cupboard? Take the cereal bar for example. Would you be able to confidently tell me what it consists of? Would you be able to name every single ingredient without giving it a second thought? The sad truth is that your answer is probably no, and you’re not alone.

The majority of us spend our lives consuming products with very little idea of the contents. We voluntarily eat food that contains ingredients that we can barely pronounce, never mind identify. Maltodextrin. E471. Aspartame. Mannitol. The list goes on…

So, here’s the challenge. I challenge you to complete five whole days where you only consume food with natural ingredients. It’s simple, don’t consume anything with ingredients that you don’t know what they are. Eat fruit and vegetables, brown rice and feta. Don’t feed your system with E numbers or chemicals. Read the ingredients and only buy products where you are sure of every single substance listed. In short, don’t fill your body with anything processed- go natural!

You’ll feel more energised, cleansed and it will work wonders for your skin. I guarantee that you will start to feel better even after just two days! The challenge will not only improve your energy and health, but will also allow you to make more conscious food and drink decisions in the future. I’ll be carrying out my challenge Monday to Friday next week and I cannot wait to feel revitalised once again! Give it a go and let me know how you get on… because natural is the way it’s meant to be! xx

Hello, Again!

Hello Tigers,

It’s been a while and I must apologise for my time away. The past few weeks have been super busy for me (a few days in Morocco with New Balance, lots and lots and lots of work at ASOS HQ, a trip to the tropical island of Cyprus and of course, a good few work outs in between)! But I am back and raring to fill your feeds with fitness, fashion and health goodness once again, in the usual Tigeress style.

For me, Cyprus involved ten days of amazing company, yummy food, beach runs, belly laughing until my eyes were watering and abs felt like I’d just hit the sit ups, more food, surf waves, jungle shoots, sun lounging and last but not least, a whole lot of cheeky cocktails. Oh, and did I mention food? Doing my favourite things with some of my favourite people- heaven!

Now I’m back in the crazy city of London and although I was beyond excited to catch up with all of my UK friends, the fact was that I couldn’t face another rich meal or alcoholic beverage. My body had quite simply had enough. But what do you do in the city to socialise that doesn’t involve food and/or drink? Hmmm… good question!

Unfortunately, in modern culture, the main forms of entertainment involve binge drinking and over indulging. True, no? But things are about to change as exercise and health become the new ways to catch up with your bestie. People are realising that they don’t have to sacrifice health to have fun. I strongly believe in balance and I’m not saying to ditch the drink or abandon eating out entirely, but next time you’re planning on meeting up with friends, why not try a goss whilst running in the park or over a smoothie at the local juice bar?

What did I decide to do to catch up with the girls on my return? Roller disco! More belly laughing, fab company, a whole lot of fun, exercising without even realising it and no hangover the next day… Looking after your body is quickly becoming the new way to be happy, and what better way to do so that with friends by your side! It’s time to get your health on, tigers and I’m here to help you out along the way! xx
