So, Summer has officially come to an end (even if the weather isn’t saying so just yet- I’m actually typing this while sat outside trying to soak up the last of the sun) and the thought of Autumn has me scrambling to hold onto my tan for as long as naturally possible. FYI, I am not a sun bed user and aren’t so much a fan of fake tan, so they are out of the equation! I could book flights to a hotter destination, which may still happen, but as a quick fix to maintain healthy glowing skin I’m choosing to ramp up the moisturising!
I don’t particularly like to apply too many products to my face, as I believe that it’s best to let your skin breathe. I’m also very aware of the high amount of chemicals in most of these products, so feel it’s best to minimise this as much as possible- after all, anything that you apply to your skin and don’t wash off is absorbed.
Anyway, there’s only a few skincare items that I actually allow near my face and this is one of them… Tea Tree Facial Wash by The Body Shop. A refreshing organic tea tree based wash to open up your pores and remove impurities, leaving you with clearer skin. The item that I reach for first if I feel a blemish on it’s way. I also use this as part of my everyday routine, as it’s gentle enough to use daily.
It is recommended for blemished skin however I’m actually lucky enough not to suffer too much with outbreaks. I still find the wash perfect to awaken and freshen my face and if a spot does attempt to break loose, my Tea Tree Facial Wash usually does a very good job of keeping it away. An amazing one for anybody suffering with acne, but I also recommend it all round!

Our Community Trade organic tea tree oil comes from The Kenya Organic Oil Farmers’ Association (KOOFA), a co-operative of over 550 small-scale organic farmers around Mount Kenya National Park. Our products contain only pure leaf essential oil, made with hand-harvested leaves and gently steam-distilled for an exceptional-quality purifying essential oil. The leaves are steam distilled within 12 hours of harvest, using a gentle heat to ensure a high quality tea tree oil. Our trade helps provide the smallholder farmers of KOOFA with a steady income, which means that they can develop sustainable farming systems and fund community projects in their local area (The Body Shop, 2016).
There’s no scrimping on quality, rated 5 stars online by users and priced at £5.50 for a 250ml bottle, it’s actually a bit of a bargain. x
With holiday season in full swing, it’s vital that we keep our skin healthy and moisturised. Daily moisturising is key- I opt for day and night- as well as plenty of water of course! But when it comes to layering my skin with the thirst-quenching good stuff, my number one go-to moisturiser is Vita Coco Coconut Oil and I am OBSESSED!
It’s not every day you can say that you can eat your moisturiser. Well with Vita Coco you can. It’s natural, raw and organic, meaning no nasty chemicals to get in the way. It’s also cold pressed therefore packed with all of it’s original goodness. It will keep your skin soft, hydrated and is my now not-so-secret way of maintaining my holiday glow throughout summer and beyond. Simply apply to your body (I would avoid adding to your face, as it’s a little… oily) wait to dry and you’re good to go. It’s especially great to wear before bed and if you want to give your feet some TLC just layer up the coconut oil, slip on your socks and dream the night away. You’ll wake up feeling silky smooth!
Available in 500ml or 750ml tubs for £9.99 and £14.50 respectively. You only need to use a tiny amount so one tub can last months! x
I’m hopping on a plane today (yippeee) for a special shoot in the sun, which means that it’s important for my skin to be looking the best that it can. Not only that, but I really don’t want to be peeling as soon as I arrive home. The best way to soften, smooth and prep my skin for the sun? Body scrub!
Yesterday was a huge rush and when I came to scrub I realised that I didn’t actually have any to hand. There was little time to go to the shops so I decided to use a little DIY and it actually turned out to be rather great (and really easy)…
If you’ve seen my homemade cocktail video (feel free to click right here if not) you’ll know that I’m no DIY pro. Yet, as disasterous as the process usually is, the results tend to be pretty good! There were no mishaps here, even with my track record and it was as simple as one, two, scrub!
All you need to do is…
1. Grab a dollop of raw coconut oil and a proportionate amount of Himalayan sea salt- a tea spoon should be enough.
2. Mix together.
3. Apply to skin and rub in circular motions.
4. Rinse off.
Your skin will be left smooth, flake free and super soft. You can even feel the coconut oil working its moisturising magic for a couple of hours after getting out of the shower! A natural body scrub that your skin will thank you for.
Our favourite guest writer is back once again (yippeee) and as a bit of a nutrition expert, I always look forward to hearing Lois’s top food and drink finds. This time she’s blogging all about her new found love for a super healthy drink… Here’s why Lois thinks that Aloe Vera water is one to try! x
I recently discovered Aloe Vera water and was pleasantly surprised at the refreshing and sweet taste of this yummy beverage!
After some research, I loved the sound of all of its health and beauty benefits. Aloe Vera is packed full of amino acids, vitamins including A, C and E and minerals such as Calcium, Iron and Zinc, making it a fabulous drink for detoxing and for boosting your immune system. It helps with lowering blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels and if that isn’t enough, it also helps to increase the healthiness of your hair and promotes hair growth.
Aloe Vera, in its pure leaf form, can sooth skin issues such as acne or burns and is great for skin hydration and building skin’s natural defences- meaning that I’m on a crazy hunt for Aloe Vera product to keep my skin glowing all summer!
Ensure that you’re feeling fresh and healthy after all of this weekend’s Bank Holiday madness by popping down to your local supermarket and trying my new favourite source of hydration!
With Love, Lois x
P.S. It’s available at Tesco for only £1.05 for a 500ml bottle!
