My biggest post-workout rule is to eat. If you go without fuel after exercise, then the effects can be adverse to what you set out to achieve- even if that was weight loss! It’s really important to get some kind of food into your system and I always opt for a protein rich option. However, that’s sometimes easier said than done.
I live a 45 minute commute away from my gym, meaning that by the time I get home and have a chance to cook I’m one, absolutely starving and two, my body has decided to start burning my muscle. Booo! So it’s really important that I snack straight after my workout to put me on until I can get to a proper meal. I set out to find the perfect snack for after my gym session and came across edamame.
Edamame is a healthy snack packed with protein, meaning that it’s perfect for your post-workout fix or mid-afternoon office lull! There’s around 11g of protein per 100g of edamame, which is more than what some protein products offer, without all of the other added ingredients. It’s a great source of many minerals and is low in fat and sugar. Oh and it tastes pretty nice too! Give them a try and let me know what you think! x
You know when you find something that’s absolutely delicious and good for you and you get a little bit too excited? That’s me right now, telling you guys about my favourite fruit. I’ve been a fan of physalis for a while, but to my surprise not all that many people know about it. Well if you haven’t heard of physalis before, you have now…
It’s not exactly a household fruit. In fact, the first time that I came across physalis was actually, typically, as a decoration on my dessert. My gran told me that they were called Chinese lanterns and I went on calling them that for years. That was until I grew up, stumbled across them in the fruit aisle on my food shop and realised they’re not called Chinese lanterns at all. Their real name is physalis.
OK, so they kind of sound like a disease but I promise you that they are absolutely delicious. If you have a sweet tooth, I recommend that you swap your bag of sweets for a bag of these as a healthy alternative! Honestly, they’re that good (ish). Super sweet and super yum, as well as having a number of health benefits such as helping to improve eyesight, protecting the kidney and liver, aiding healthy pregnancy and helping to relieve arthritis pain. I picked mine up at Sainsbury’s for £1 per bag. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
Happy Halloween! It’s that time of year once again when all things strange, spooky and out-of-the-norm become the norm! With all the sweet (tricks and) treats around us, it’s sometimes a little hard to stick to your healthy habits. Well, that was until I collated this wicked list of all things healthy and Halloween from different sources across the web.
It’s back! The Yummy Snack Alert feature has returned to keep you on track to eat healthily throughout the day, even when those mid afternoon cravings kick in!
This one’s particularly great for that post-gym fix. Packed with protein and nutrients, Bounce Energy Balls are perfect for providing your body with the goodness it needs to go straight to your muscles after exercise (to put you on until you can have proper meal) or even before your workout for that last minute snack. They help to satisfy hunger, sustain energy and they’re super tasty!
A healthy and convenient way to keep you going throughout the day and an amazing way to top up on protein, they’re stocked in many retailers such as Whole Foods, Boots, Waitrose and Tesco to name a few. See which flavour you fancy right here (I like the Cocao Mint best). Enjoy xx
Avocados have to be the go-to health food of the last couple of years. They’re high in potassium, fibre, antioxidants and healthy fats. They protect our eyes, lower cholesterol levels and can even can help to fight cancer. Pretty amazing right?! But when it comes to eating them, you have to be quick or else, similar to bananas, they’ll be turning that yucky brown colour that’s not quite so appealing!
I stumbled across this interesting video of how to banish the brown and keep your avo fresh for longer!
With BBQ season on the way, who doesn’t love a good guacamole dip! Give these cheeky little tips a try for guac that can be prepared the night before and will last until you actually want to eat it- one less stress for the day! Or (like myself) why not prepare a batch at the weekend and have a stash of guac for the week ahead… Yum! xx
