Is it just me or does everybody seem to need a little extra lip care in Jan? It could be a combination of the chilly weather and neglect to hydrate over the party season in December. Whatever the reason, it’s nice to give you lips some TLC throughout January and beyond. Here are my three favourite lip balms that actually do a good job!
Finding a cosmetic (or even edible) product on the high street that has absolutely no chemicals, preservatives or artificial alterations can prove to be pretty difficult, if not near-impossible! In fact, I’d not come across a skincare brand that only stocks all natural products until I was gifted a little tub of Sister & Co. lip tonic from a good friend for my birthday and did a little digging into the brand.
Beginning with organic cold pressed raw coconut oil, Sister & Co. now provide a whole collection of skin care products made with unprocessed raw superfoods. Although the products don’t last as long as the chemically enhanced ones that we see in the skincare market, which can last around three whole years (Sister & Co. up to one year), they are produced in small batches every twelve weeks and sent straight to market so are guaranteed to be fresh.
The range includes body scrubs, creams, hair drinks and lip tonics and they even have special products for men, mothers and babies. My Raw Coconut Lip Tonic With Rose Otto and Cardamom feels heavenly and I don’t have to worry that my skin is absorbing any nasty chemicals! A little pricey for a lip balm at £9, I would definitely say that it’s worth it- a natural conditioner to extensively hydrate your lips. See more from Sister & Co. right here.
Earlier this year I shared with you the magic of Blistex Intensive Moisturiser. Now I’m bringing to you another Blistex treat, Blistex MedPlus. Containing conditioning Cocoa Butter along with cooling Menthol, this is a fabulous find for lips in need of a little (or a lot of) extra TLC…
Having recently travelled abroad, I somehow managed to slip up on my usually careful lip sun protection routine and the results weren’t pretty! Dry, cracked and quite frankly painful lips aren’t something that I’d aimed to achieve, but I was stuck with them anyway. Racing to the shops in search of a remedy, I planned to pick up the Blistex Intensive Moisturiser that I had previously loved. Yet when scouring the lip balm isle something else caught my eye. Recommended for distressed lips in need of rescue I headed straight to the checkout.
Overnight my lips were visibly healthier and although not yet back to their hydrated self, the Blistex MedPlus was definitely working. By day two my lips were back to normal and by day three they were more hydrated than ever! I have to say that this is by far the best lip care that I have ever used and that is a very bold statement. I still love my other balms of course, but when my lips are screaming for help, MedPlus is definitely what I’ll be reaching for.
Oh, and it also has SPF 15 so is a great one to protect as well as repair!
Available for £2.30 at Boots and Sainsbury’s. Choose from either a pot or the cherry flavoured stick.
After months of battling with the cold UK weather, it’s this time of year that my lips suffer the most. They’re particularly paying for it this time round and have chapped to the point where it hurts for me to even smile. Not great at all.
In an attempt to battle the dryness, I’d been applying my regular lip salve non-stop (one perfect for summer with SPF and a slight gold shimmer), but it seemed that they were past revival. Gallons of water and half a lip salve later, I was beginning to lose all hope. That was until a recommendation came from a close friend- Blistex Intensive Moisturiser. It had to be worth a try…
Priced very reasonably at just £2.59 (currently on offer for £1.69 at Superdrug) I picked one up immediately! I’ve been using mine for just under three days, applying around three times per day and my lips are already noticeably healthier. Although not fully healed just yet- I can’t expect miracles- they are definitely under repair! And finally, I can smile again. Woohoo!
It may not be the fanciest of lip salves, however it definitely does the job. Containing Shea Butter, it’s definitely more of a moisturiser than a balm and Blistex were right to name it as ‘intense’. If you suffer from dry lips or simply want a boost if hydration, I would definitely recommend. xx
